TRACK AND FIELD MEETING
Any High School student wanting to participate in Track and Field, there is a meeting on Tuesday, January 30th at 11:45am in Bobcat Academy.
BETA CLUB RECYCLING FOR THE Ronald McDonald House
Delta HS BETA Club is hosting a recycling program for the Ronald McDonald House in St. Louis. We will be collecting: Aluminum can tab tops, Old Keys - Collect and donate your unused keys to one of our Houses through our Keys to the Heart Program. When you donate the keys, you no longer need, you open doors for families with seriously ill children. Small electronics - Accepted electronics include: old cell phones, laptops, power adapters and chargers, holiday lights, home and office phones, extension cords, network gear, satellite receivers, and PC towers. Items can be dropped off in the lobby at the High School.
A+ Log Sheets
All A+ students, please update your A+ logs with your hours and activities and turn them into Mrs. Elfrink so she may update your progress. Seniors, please turn in your logs asap so Mrs. Elfrink can update your parents on your eligibility.
HOMECOMING TICKETS
Homecoming Tickets are now on SALE! $10.00 each! You can purchase your tickets in the art room! Be sure to get the guest form filled out and turned into the office if you plan on bringing an outside guest!
SENIORS
The deadline for Murray State University Competitive Scholarships is February 5 @ 12pm CT. Racer Nation Orientation registration is now live. You can register by logging into your Murray State MyGate Account (if an admitted student has not logged in, you will need to call the Service Desk at 270-809-2346).
3rd Annual Baseball Breakfast
Saturday, February 24th from 6-10am, the Delta Baseball team will be serving a pancake and sausage breakfast in the high school cafeteria. Fill your belly for a donation of your choice.
Mizzou Housing is Now Open. Admitted Fall 2024 students can now complete a housing and dining contract. Students are encouraged to complete these contracts soon. The sooner they turn in their contract, the higher priority they receive for residence hall selection in the spring.
The River City Rodders has a Vocational School Scholarship that will be awarded to a graduating senior at a high school located in the Cape Girardeau area who will be attending a 2- or 4-year vocational institution in the next academic school year with a focus on automotive skills. The amount of the scholarship will be $1000 and is not renewable after one year. Applications are available in Mrs. Elfrink's office. Deadline to apply is April 15.
JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
The Better Business Bureau Student of Ethics Award is open to high school students graduating in Spring 2025. Must write a 300 word essay on an ethical dilemma you have faced and how you resolved it. Apply at https://stlouisbbb.wufoo.com/forms/x1xgjxrd1fbhte7/. Winners will receive a $2,500 scholarship.
Horatio Alger Scholarship open to juniors planning to enter a college in the US no later than the fall following graduation. Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, demonstrate critical financial need, be involved in co-curricular & community service. The online application is available at horationalger.org/scholarships. Scholarships range from $10,000 to $25,000 with more than 600 available. Deadline is March 15.
JUNIORS
Black River Electric Cooperative’s Annual Youth Tour Essay Contest for Juniors
Juniors have an opportunity to win an all-expenses paid trip to Washington DC. How to enter: submit an original essay 500-1000 words on the topic: Black River Electric Cooperative was formed over 85 years ago to improve the lives of citizens in Southeast Missouri. Part 1: How does the service BREC provides improve your family's life? Part 2: Explain something you have done or want to do that will better the lives of the people around you or in your community. Complete an application from the office and student profile. Mail essay and application to BREC postmarked by Friday, March 8. MIZZOU REQUIRED HIGH SCHOOL COURSEWORK
Since COVID, MIZZOU has been lenient regarding students not meeting their core courses for admission. In 2025, they will return to normal in how they view high school coursework to meet their requirements. The following core courses are required:
English: 4 units
Math: 4 units
Science: 3 units
Social Science: 3 units
Foreign Language: 2 units (if offered)
Fine Arts: 1 unit
MISSOURI YOUTH LEADERSHIP FORUM JULY 16-20 @ UNIV OF MO-COLUMBIA
Missouri Youth Leadership Forum is a free 5-day, 4-night program for high school students with disabilities. The forum enables young adults who have a disability to learn from each other and successful adults with disabilities. Some of the topics covered: self-advocacy, employment skills, higher education, disability pride, mentorship, assistive technology, independent living, community service, & legislative advocacy. ROTARY CAMP ENTERPRISE
Rotary Camp Enterprise will be at the Cape CTC on February 23 8:00am-2:30pm. It is a fun seminar that allows Seniors & Juniors to explore the world of business through activities & enterprise simulations. $500 scholarships available. Free food. SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS
Southeast Missouri State University awards approximately 1,750 endowed scholarship opportunities to admitted Southeast students. The scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year are now open!
Automatch Scholarships: All admitted students, with an activated Southeast Key, are automatically considered for these scholarships, and no additional application is needed.
Recommended Scholarships: Admitted students who meet the basic criteria for these scholarships will be emailed, encouraging them to apply and supply additional information.
Students who are chosen for a scholarship will be notified through their Southeast email, with most awards announced in May for the upcoming academic year.
In addition to scholarships offered by Southeast, some External Scholarships may be viewed under the “Opportunities” heading. These scholarships are not affiliated with Southeast Missouri State University. University of Missouri-Columbia High School Mini-Med School
Available in June for two sessions. Session 1 runs from June 2-6 and Session 2 is from June 9-13. This overnight camp is for Missouri high school rising seniors who are interested in a career in medicine. Students will attend lectures and will participate in the same Patient Based Learning (PBL) curriculum that Mizzou medical students do. They will have lots of hands-on clinical experiences. The cost for this camp is $650 which includes all the camp fees, lodging, camp deposit of $50 and meals. There are some scholarships available, and the application is free to complete. The application is open January 12 and is due March 17 along with a transcript and a letter of recommendation from a past or current science teacher. Friday 2/2: Boys could potentially play at Oran in the conference tournament. I will update everyone as I know.
